BOB Blongiewicz's first day on the job as national sales manager at Loews Santa Monica Hotel was supposed to have been last Sept. 11.

But as the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon unfolded, his boss called and told him not to show up until the following day.

All told, it hasn't been an easy year for Blongiewicz, who is in charge of filling rooms with individual corporate travelers, as opposed to groups, at the 342-room seaside hotel.
