EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

THE 30 largest financial institutions with branches in L.A. County have 82 percent of the total market share.

Overall, L.A. County branches of banks and savings and loans received $240 billion in deposits as of June 30 according to the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp.

Bank of America tops the list with an 18.6 percent market share, followed by Seattle-based Washington Mutual Bank.

Four San Francisco-based institutions appear on the list, accounting for 20 percent of the market share. Wells Fargo, with more than 200 local branches, ranks third overall. Deposits increased by $20 million, but the bank's market share fell to 9.6 percent, down 0.4 percent compared with a year ago.
